The Healthcare Information and Management Systems Society (HIMSS) has released a guide to assist healthcare IT departments with evaluating mobile application performance. The guide is aimed primarily at small- to medium-sized healthcare providers.
The proliferation of mobile apps makes it difficult to find those that are useful, usable, and secure for medical facilities. The HIMSS’ work group considered design, function, and usability in developing a three-step guide to mobile app evaluation. These three steps are: considering the practice’s goals and measurable objectives; using other resources to supplement reviews of market apps (such as KLAS and iMedicalApps.com); and assessing the app’s usability within typical clinical scenarios. The app usability guide also contains checklists and other resources to aid providers and healthcare IT personnel select the right apps for their needs.
Mobile health technology is playing an increasing role in healthcare IT, alongside other newer technologies like cloud computing and more entrenched tech like Wide Area Networking and hardware firewalls. Microwize Technology can guide you in all areas of healthcare IT and offers managed IT services as well.
