The Department of Health and Human Services (HHS) has announced that it is making up to $275 million available to states to improve the quality and affordability of their healthcare systems. The State Innovation Models Initiative, made possible through the Patient Protection and Affordable Care Act (ACA), encourages states through financial and technical support to come up with innovative health programs and solutions for beneficiaries of Medicare, Medicaid, and the Children’s Health Insurance Program (CHIP).
This initative, created by CMS’ Center for Medicare and Medicaid Innovation, will offer a competitive funding opportunity for up to thirty states, which can apply for awards to either assist in implementing already-developed models or provide assistance in determining system improvements they can make to existing systems. The center’s goal is to get states to work with a broad coalition including employers, insurers, healthcare providers, and consumers to improve payment models and delivery systems.
Medical billing software such as Medisoft, Lytec, and Allscripts MyWay is also an important part of the process of improving patient care while reducing overall costs, and Microwize Technology’s healthcare IT consultants can help.
