When entering an ICD10 code in Medisoft or Lytec you need to reference the ICD9 as long as you might be billing any insurance/payer with and icd9. for example if you are sending a claim and the date of service is before October 1, 2015 you can practice entering an ICD-10 but want to send the claim with ICD-9, please reference screen capture above. Another reason you need the ICD-9 is if you don’t know the ICD-10 code and you want to look it up by ICD-9 it is an easy way to do the look up if you have the ICD-9. When the time comes and no insurance company wants ICD-9 and you don’t look up ICD-10 code using ICD-9 then it is ok to stop filling the icd9 field on the diagnoses box.
