Healthcare Industry Should Expand Social Media Use

social mediaA recent report from technology consultants CSC finds that U.S. healthcare organizations lag behind their UK and Scandinavian counterparts when it comes to social media adoption.

The report determined that healthcare is less proactive in adopting social media than other industries worldwide.  In the U.S., providers are more likely to utilize social media for marketing than for patient interactions, in part due to worries that health-related information provider over such media could be mistakenly interpreted as medical advice.  Facebook and Twitter are often avoided by physicians who are concerned about increasing their malpractice liability.

Despite these concerns, the report finds that social media can indeed aid in improving patient care, particularly in terms of care coordination and management and patient monitoring.  Coupling such a solution with an Electronic Health Records (EHR) system like Medisoft Clinical, Lytec MD, or Allscripts MyWay can give a practice and its patients unprecedented access to useful data.  Microwize Technology can help with implementing your EHR solution.
