A recent article in Medical Economics notes that, in addition to the push that EHR (Electronic Health Records) incentives have given to technology upgrades in healthcare, changes in Practice Management Systems are being driven by patients.
Patient portals and check-in products are generating additional revenue for practices, and patients are increasingly looking to register or make appointments or get prescriptions online. Online bill payment, ease of use, and interfaces with existing medical devices and equipment remain priorities among medical professionals looking for integrated EHR/PM systems that will enable compliance with current and forthcoming federal regulations.
David Henriksen, McKesson Provider Technologies’ senior vice-president and general manager, indicated that McKesson’s data shows more than two-thirds of EHR decisions result in standalone PM systems like McKesson’s own Medisoft and Lytec being migrated to integrated, often cloud-based solutions. McKesson Practice Choice and Allscripts MyWay are two such solutions, sold and supported reliably by value-added reseller Microwize Technology.
