Recommended Specifications for Aprima – System Requirements

Aprima can be hosted in the cloud, or installed on-premise on your own servers. If choosing the latter route, adhering to Microwize’s Aprima system requirements for the hardware and operating system will prevent slowness, crashing, and freezing issues in Aprima.


The Aprima client workstation requirements are the same whether you are using Aprima Cloud (hosted by Microwize) or an on-premise Aprima installation (hosted on your own server). Workstations must have Windows 10 21H2 / Windows 11 21H2 or later, Pro or Enterprise only (Home Edition not supported).

Aprima system requirements for workstation hardware:

  • Intel Core i3/i5/i7 2.0 GHz or newer, or AMD 2.0 GHz or newer (2 or more cores recommended); ARM and Intel Atom CPUs are not supported
  • 8 GB of RAM
  • 128 GB or more of storage, on a 7200-rpm or faster hard disk or a Solid State Drive (SSD)
  • Gigabit (1000 Mbps) Ethernet Network Interface Controller (NIC)  or 802.11n Wi-Fi with Internet connection (minimum 15Mbps)
  • Monitor resolution of 1920×1080 or larger
  • available USB port if a TWAIN-compatible scanner will be attached

Requirements for workstation software:

  • Microsoft Excel 2010 or higher, installed locally (Office 365/Microsoft 365 must be Business Standard and not Business Basic)
  • Adobe Reader v8 or higher
  • Microsoft Edge browser (kept updated)
  • Microsoft .NET Framework 3.5 with SP1
  • Microsoft .NET Framework 4.8
  • All Windows Updates applied for the OS, .NET, and Excel/Office
  • Antivirus/antimalware software


If you choose to have Microwize host Aprima in the cloud for you, then you won’t need a server with the requirements below – we’ll take care of everything on our end! For those who prefer to host your Aprima server in the office for up to five providers and up to 20 users, please ensure that it is running Windows Server 2016/2019/2022 with Desktop Experience installed (Server 2012/2012 R2 will reach end-of-support in October 2023 and should not be used for new installs) and meets or exceeds the following specifications. (For more than five providers / 20 users, please speak with one of Microwize’s healthcare technology consultants.)

Aprima system requirements for server hardware:

  • Intel Xeon 2.0 GHz or better CPU
  • 32 GB of RAM
  • OS drive: two 300 GB (or larger) 15K or faster hard disks or Solid State Drives (SSDs) configured for RAID 1
  • Data drive: four 600 GB (or larger) 15K or faster hard disks or Solid State Drives (SSDs) configured for RAID 10 (recommended: five disks/SSDs configured for RAID 5)
  • RAID controller with cache
  • Gigabit (1000 Mbps) Ethernet Network Interface Controller (NIC) with Internet connection (minimum 15Mbps)

Requirements for server software:

  • Microsoft SQL Server 2019 (SQL Express is not supported)
  • Microsoft .NET Framework 3.5 with SP1
  • Microsoft .NET Framework 4.8
  • All Windows Updates applied for the OS, SQL Server, and .NET

Microwize also strongly recommends an uninterruptible power supply (UPS) to provide emergency power to the server in the event of an outage or disruption, Internet security / antivirus / antimalware software, and a business-class firewall.  HP LaserJet printers are recommended for standard printing, while Dymo LabelWriter printers are recommended for label printing.

Access your Aprima system from anywhere using the Aprima NOW app on your Android or iOS / iPadOS mobile device with Internet connectivity (cellular or Wi-Fi).
