CHIME and AHIMA Urge Minimal ICD-10 Delay

The College of Healthcare Information Management (CHIME) submitted its comments on the proposed one-year delay on ICD-10 implementation, calling it an appropriate middle ground but recommending against more delays or uncertainties.  The American Health Information Management Association (AHIMA), meanwhile, reiterated its position that there should be no delay in the deadline.

CHIME urged the Department of Health and Human Services to remain committed to implementing ICD-10 and stated that a longer delay would “seriously disrupt”

NY Program to Create Healthcare IT Jobs

Some 2012 Medicare Incentive Claims Missed

Novitas Solutions, Inc. (formerly Highmark Medicare Services), a Medicare contractor, has announced that some claims submitted during the first quarter of 2012 did not have the National Provider Identifier (NPI) properly recognized, and therefore the 10% incentive under the PCIP (Primary Care Incentive Payment) Program may not have been paid.

More Security Breaches of Patient Records

Two more data breaches were revealed this week, one in South Carolina and one in Georgia, with the latter involving patients’ protected health information (PHI).  Well over a million records have been exposed in several security breaches over the past month.

HHS Proposes ICD-10 Compliance Delay

The Department of Health and Human Services (HHS) announced a proposed rule on April 9th to delay the compliance date for ICD-10 (International Classification of Diseases, 10th Edition) by one year, to October 1, 2014.  The rule would also add a requirement for NPI (National Provider Identifier).
